Today is the first writing related post I’ve done since my blog switched to focus on medieval things at the beginning of this year. However, I am going to be doing this tag for my medieval romantasy which I’m currently querying, so it’s technically medieval, right?
A big thanks to Hallie Kropf and Hannah Ruth Johnson for tagging me! If you haven’t checked out their blogs yet, definitely do so; they’ve got a lot of great writing and bookish content they post!

The Rules
- Link back to the original tag, as well as your tagger’s (thanks again, Hallie and Hannah! The original post can be found HERE)
- List the rules (these are the rules in case you didn’t notice)
- Make a list of a few characters and a song that fits each of them, or a verse from a song. For authors, these can be your OCs. Readers? Some of your favorite characters.
- Tag someone (or multiple someones)
I used to always give my characters theme songs, several years ago. Nowadays, I’m more of a give-songs-to-scenes girl. But I think I can wrangle up some songs to match my characters.
Halynn Forrest
Halynn’s my female main character, and becomes a knight in order to pursue the assassin who murdered her father. Her biggest goal is to protect her brothers from the same madman—definitely not to fall for the arrogant prince she serves.
I feel like The Enchantress White by Peter Crowley fits her pretty well. It just has the medieval vibe of a simple peasant marketplace, with a motivating upbeat tone. Though Halynn has her dark moments, she never gives up entirely, and the simple peasant marketplace fits the setting where much of the story takes place, as well as her background as a peasant girl.
Andrias Montcroix
Andrias is my male main character, who wears a haughty, abrasive front as the crown prince, but truly just wants to live in peace with his sickly older brother, Castiander. His main goal is to catch the assassin trying to murder his brother for his throne, but ends up discovering no one and nothing is as it seems, including the pretty knight tasked to protect him.
Hope Never Dies by Sergey Azbel seems to fit him, not just because the name of the song is perfect, but also the uplifting tone seems to match his slow character development from someone who’s untrusting of everyone and out for himself to someone who’s wiser and is ready to sacrifice himself for others, and subsequently is rewarded for it.
Castiander Montcroix
Every author has their pet character, and Castiander is mine. Sickly, yet strong, he’s the embodiment (and originator) of the titular phrase, “nothing is as it seems” in the story.
Now, he is the singular character who I actually associated with a song, and it’s actually because of a spoiler element which is only ever hinted at in the actual novel. If or when I write a sequel, it will be explored in much more depth. This song is the titular theme from a mobile game I sometimes play called Lovebrush Chronicles, called The Time and Space Traveler Paints the Story. The gentle, yet elegant and mysterious vibe to the song perfectly fits Castiander and his rather oxymoronic character.
Sir Forge
Sir Forge is Castiander’s personal knight and a frenemy of Andrias during much of the book. He’s a good fellow though, and I may or may not be writing a side story focusing on him.
I just recently found his theme (it may have helped inspire his little side story) but it’s hard to explain as it’s in a collection of songs and I can’t find a name for it. Anyway, if you want to give it a listen, it’s in the collection of songs on YouTube called The Sound of Cinema – Classic Movie Music | Romantic Orchestral Themes and Adagios and it’s the very first song, lasting from 0:00-3:47
Vallatin Aspis
This fellow is… well, you might have to read the novel so I won’t spoil you. But he’s definitely one of my most mysterious characters.
His theme song is also in a collection of songs on YouTube, but at least this one has a name! In the Mysterious Orchestral Music Collection by Sound Phenomenon, it’s song song #4, Deep Reflection, which starts at the nine minute mark.
Honestly, going through this made me realize my two MCs were the ones I really had to search songs for, and I’m not 100% satisfied for them, though they work for now. If there was a songs-you’ve-put-to-scenes tag, though, I’d have had a much easier time, haha!
Anyway, thanks again to Hallie and Hannah for tagging me! I don’t remember who has and has not done this tag, so I am just going to tag a few people. If you’ve already been tagged, forgive me, I honestly don’t know who has done this and who hasn’t. And if you don’t want to do this tag and I tagged you, no worries, haha!
