Scripture Tuesday: Proverbs 23:7

So for today’s Scripture Tuesday, I am doing a verse that again was in my Bible reading this morning, and when I Skyped two wonderful friends for a girl’s Bible study this afternoon, the verse was brought up again, so I figured I just had to do it for today’s Scripture Tuesday!

Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”

The main part of this verse I will focus on is the first part- For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. This is powerful, not only because it says how you think is what you will become, but also because in Matthew 12: 34b it says, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”. And since Proverbs 18:21 says that the power of life and death is in the tongue, then not only what we speak matters, but what we think!

God was able to create the world and everything in it by just speaking, and since we were made in His image, it stands to reason that we too have power to change things by our words! For example, we can build people and ourselves up with them, or tear people and ourselves down with them. Let’s watch what we say and what we think about ourselves, and only think about what God says about us! God bless! ~ C.G

  1. Love this! As someone with low-self esteem and non-existent confidence, I am constantly catching myself breaking myself down with my own thoughts, and even worse, what I say about myself. Certainly a hard habit to break, but not an impossible one! God bless you!
