June Scripture: Proverbs 16:32

Hello everyone, and happy June! With summer fast coming upon us, things have been really heating up for me and becoming busy! But I’m not going to let that busyness stand in the way of reading the Word!

I have a One Year Pray for America Bible which I have been working on going through, and one of today’s verses was Proverbs 16:32, which says, “Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city.”

Usually I read this verse in King James Version, but this version gave me a little new perspective on the verse. Nowadays, so many people don’t have patience, that, in fact, having patience has become powerful. For example, someone who gets into debt because they have to have something “now”, becomes a servant to the lender (Proverbs 22:7).

Someone who is patient, on the other hand, will wait until they can afford the thing they want, and may even by that time, not want it anymore. They wait and don’t rush into circumstances and make decisions they may later regret because they just couldn’t wait.

Like the example the author used in the verse, about a man conquering a city — a man can conquer a city, but if he can’t even rule over his own life, how can he expect to rule a city? He may conquer a city, but probably won’t keep it for very long without self-control.

Patience is one of the Fruits of the Spirit. As we walk in the Spirit, He will give us the patience we need to live our daily lives. It’s just up to us whether or not we use it.
