Hello everyone! This week’s post is a little late, seeing as this week has been crazy, but, without further ado, here it is!
John 17: 23 NLT: “I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”
Jesus is praying for His disciples in this chapter of Scripture — not just those who were currently with Him, but for ALL of His disciples, including those who were to come (John 17:20). The thing that stuck out to me in this verse, however, was the word “unity”.
Jesus desires that His church have “perfect unity”. That should be reason enough for us as Christians to love other believers, even if they are a different denomination or have a little different doctrine than us. But that isn’t the only reason we should be in perfect unity.
Jesus goes on to say, “May they experience such perfect unity that THE WORLD will KNOW that you sent me…” If we all came together in unity, that would be the greatest witness the world could see of Jesus. They would know, without a shadow of a doubt, that God had to be real, and that He had to love His children, because His children show such love to each other despite their differences.
So let’s not argue with our brothers and sisters in Christ over minuscule doctrine. Let the Lord lead you in the paths He has for you, and know that He will take care of His other children. Love is the greatest weapon we have as Christians, and we should first and foremost love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. When we come together in unity, we can accomplish great things for Him.
God bless! ~ Kay Leigh
