I’m back with the third of my four Inspiration for a Seasonal Story posts, with this one obviously being on autumny story! Lots of things can give off the vibes of an Autumny story, and I hope to provide you with some inspiration today if your story just so happens to be set in autumn or give off autumny vibes!
Autumn in Writing
Like with any of the other seasons, obviously books set in autumn give off autumny sort of vibes, with leaves falling, old friends leaving and new ones coming, or even sporty books, such as those focusing on American football, basketball, horseback riding, you name it.
For me, though, I always associate mysteries, crimes, and thrillers with autumn. Maybe because they are darker in tone than many other stories, and there are some, like cozy mysteries which are focused more on the detective work than the actual crime itself. Old black and white movies and historical pieces also sometimes remind me of autumn, maybe because they beckon to an age past, just as autumn beckons to the closing of the past year.
Autumn Read
For some reason, every year, I associate the book The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope with autumn. Maybe because I’ve read it twice in the fall months (one of the few books warranting a re-read on my shelf) but it is a must-read book for anyone who enjoys classics, historical fantasy, and action-adventure with some political intrigue.
Autumn Movie
This autumn movie was super easy for me! The 1985 Anne of Green Gables is hands down one of the best movies ever, and it just gives me such autumn vibes. Not only is Anne’s hair red, (which is a color I associate with autumn due to the colorful leaves) it shows her growing up years, from age twelve to graduating from school and becoming an adult. The ending is a bit sad (those of you who have read the books or watched the movie know why!) but it’s satisfying as Anne finally becomes an adult and leaves her childhood behind her (and the film even ends during a sunset!)
Autumn Song
There are many autumny songs out there, but since I mentioned I often associate autumn with the mystery/thriller genres, the autumn song I picked out fits well with them, in my opinion. Meanwhile by Glen Gabriel, always gives me sneaky, spying, or attempting-to-escape-quietly vibes.
Autumny Collages
Now for the autumny collages! First, we have one with some autumny settings!

And some autumny objects and animals.

And finally, as always, a couple of collages with possible autumny male and female character faceclaims.

And that is it for my compilation of autumny things to give you inspiration! What do you think of when you think of fall? What autumny-type books or movies do you know of? What is your autumny story about? Let me know in the comments below! ~ Kay Adelin
