Inspiration for a Summery Story

Summer is in full blast right now, so it’s perfect for inspiration for a summery story! Some people read books called “beach reads”, and while not all summery stories need to be described as beach reads, they are a popular group books read during summer.

That being said, there are many things which remind me of summer and I’ve compiled a bunch of those things together in this post to hopefully help you write your story with some summery vibes!

Summer In Writing

I mentioned the term “beach reads” above. While many have something to do with summer, some are just simple, fun, and easy-to-read stories which people enjoy reading while on summer vacation or the beach. However, most summery books do have some sort of summery, nautical, or fiery vibe to them.

For some reason, historical books set in the 60s-80s give me summery vibes, especially when describing friends going on road trips together. Urban fantasy or contemporary stories set in large, bustling cities also give me summer-vibes, besides the classic beach setting. Sometimes these books can be a low-stakes romance, but often I think of more actiony, battle-packed or adventure-filled plot lines for summery books, mirroring the unpredictability of fire and water.

Summery Read

I would recommend the book The Honorable Imposter by Gilbert Morris for a good summery read. Some might argue and say it would be a better autumn read, since it is about the Pilgrims, but really the first thanksgiving part only appears towards the end. I recommend it for a summery read because it is action-packed, filled with intrigue, spies, betrayals, sword fights, romance, and, of course, much of it takes place on the ocean.

Summery Movie

A good summery movie is the Apple Dumpling Gang. It’s lighthearted story about three children who a guy unintentionally volunteers to look after, and their wild adventures and escapades. It’s an adventurous story and who says your best friends can’t be your siblings?

Summery Song

One of my all-time favorite instrumental songs, As We Sail by Fox Sailor is the perfect summery song. Not only does the title scream summer, the song itself gives me vibes of being out on a boat in the middle of a lake, the summer wind blowing through my hair.

Summery Collages

Now, for some summery collages!
