Hey everyone! Sorry I’m a day late; we had some internet issues which were finally resolved yesterday, so now I’m back with my July read, Snow White With the Red Hair Volume 9! Yes, I kinda get it’s in the middle of the series, but this book is a nice place to do one on since it opens the main arc for many of the subsequent books. I actually had more time than I thought this month to read, so I finished the series, and am now waiting for the new book to come out! If you’d like to see my ratings on those, check out my Goodreads account!

The Synopsis (Taken from Goodreads)
Shirayuki is an herbalist famous for her naturally bright-red hair, and the prince of Tanbarun wants her all to himself! The prince from the neighboring kingdom, Zen, rescues her from her plight, and thus begins their love story.
Shortly after Shirayuki and Ryu’s arrival in Lilias, a mysterious ailment breaks out. Now the two herbalists find themselves in a race against time to find a cure for the illness before it spreads throughout the city. And what will Zen and friends do when they catch word of this outbreak while on their way to Wirant?
Content Review:
Positive Messages: Like the last book I reviewed in this series, most of the positive messages have to do with the characters and how they respond to different situations. For example, as an herbalist, Shirayuki does her best to help others, no matter who they are or what circumstances they find themselves in. She also doesn’t use her relationship with Zen to get any privileges. When someone asks her to cover something up, she refuses to lie, because she knows honesty is at the root of trust.
Ryu too, though a child prodigy, is not proud and wants to help people as well by using his skills.
Prince Izana truly cares for his people and his brother, showed by his quick response to trust Shirayuki and the other herbalists and order the city closed to stop the spread of a sickness. He also treats Shirayuki kindly, though with his typical sass, even playing her “assistant” to hide his true identity.
As for Zen, he too does what he can to help people. He obeys those in authority over him without question (even though his main authority is his own older brother) and seeks to help him during the sickness from outside the city’s walls, diverting people from it.
Obi, Zen’s messenger and Shirayuki’s sometimes bodyguard also shows his concern for not just Shirayuki but also Ryu when the sickness breaks out. He also seeks to help Zen and Shirayuki get together and often thinks of them over himself, obeying Zen’s orders with loyalty. He even helps Shirayuki and Ryu with finding a cure, despite not being an herbalist himself. Zen’s other aides are also very loyal, continuing to stand by his side as needed.
All the healers work hard to find a cure so the city can go back to normal.
A brother cares for his sister and orders her to stay put so she won’t get sick.

Spiritual Content: There is really no spiritual content in this book.

Romantic Content: A guy remarks another guy’s looks could melt snow (it’s an off-handed remark, the man looks at him as a rival). A couple holds hands, and someone mentions someone being in a love triangle.
A man introduces himself as single whenever he meets someone new bc he wants to be married. When asked, he says it’s never worked. The same guy asks another guy if three girls proposed to him, which would he choose.
A guy nearly kisses a girl while she’s sleeping, but doesn’t. It’s hinted he still likes her years later, but she seems oblivious.
Rating: 4.5/5
Violent Content: There is no violent content in this book either!

Language: One d-word and one h-word are mentioned.
Rating: 4/5
Other Negative Content: A kid complains adults can’t get anything done and also talks a little rudely. He also has stolen things. Admittedly, he’s acting this way because he’s worried for his sick friend, but still.
A man asks someone to keep something under wraps, and basically lie about something if asked.

Personal Review:
This book opens with Shirayuki and Ryu in Lilias, with a mysterious sickness breaking out, and how they handled it. Honestly my favorite part about this book was probably Izana going around pretending to be someone common, as well as his interactions with others who both knew and didn’t know who he was. Mitsuhide and Kiki didn’t get too much book time, so that was a little disappointing since I really like to see Mitsuhide, Kiki and Obi’s interactions, but it was okay.
This wasn’t my favorite book in the series, but it also has a lot of good things about it which I enjoyed.
Personal Rating: 4/5 Stars
